Yong JunHyung - 'Flower'

On the topic of Beast this week, let's talk about their rapper Yong JunHyung's first solo release 'Flower'.

After hearing Beast's last mini album which was written and produced by JunHyung there was no denying he is a talented far beyond his years.  So needless to say I was expecting a whole lot from his solo activities, and I was not disappointed.

To be honest the first time I heard Flower it wasn't what I expected, but after listening to it a few times I had it on repeat and I was in love.  The mellow, smooth tones on this track and of course his rapping are so cool.  I also like the concept of this girl being like a flower and he's addicted to her and her scent.  Even when the flower withers and the scent becomes faint he's still attracted to her.

"Flowers are gone, but I still love you baby, I love you baby.  Flowers are gone, but you’re in me, you’re in me baby, you’re in my heart baby".

The MV was super cool too.  I love the bodiless scenes with the flowers, it was pretty weird in a really cool way.  The MV still had a masculine feel even with the quirks and the flowers, the whole thing was completely JunHyung.

I think JunHyung as an artist is underrated, hopefully this mini album will show just how talented he is.  I mean, how many 23 year olds are writing and producing their own music of this quality?  I like the way this guy's mind works and I am loving everything about this track from the music to the performance.

First Yang YoSeob's solo in 2012, now JunHyung is taking a turn and killing it - proving just how talented the members of Beast are.  Please make more music, sooner rather than later please!

Yang Yoseob - ‘Caffeine’

I love Beast, in particular Yang YoSeob and Yong JunHyung, so what could be better than collaboration from the two.  Yang YoSeob’s first solo release ‘Caffeine’ highlights all the aspects I love about his voice, which if you ask me is one of the best in the biz.  The soft and catchy melodies teamed with JunHyung’s rap are a match made in (B2ty) Heaven.
I love this song so much that a year later I still listen to it often and love it just as much as the first time I heard it.  Some songs you just never get tired of hearing.
I like the concept, that kind of love that’s bad but you can’t let go of it.  Falling in love with someone who’s bad to you but you can’t be without them – they’re like caffeine.

I especially like the lines “It’s late, I need to sleep but I already counted all the sheep in my head” and “I keep drawing out your face in the ceiling when I close my eyes”.

Moving on to the MV side of things... Where do I start?  When I first watched it felt similar to G-Dragon’s ‘That XX’ MV.  Mostly because of the fashion, oh the fashion, but with a totally different storyline.  The suits in this MV were amazing, don’t even get me started on the hand embroidered Balmain suit, also a big yes to the Beatle Juice suit.

I loved the pensive YoSeob setting fire to the suitcase of belongings and the scenes of him standing in the shadows of the blinds.  The MV matched the track 100%.

Oh Yong JunHyung, always stealing my heart.  I somewhat wish he was in this MV a little more but then again it’s meant to be all about YoSeob

What else can I say? Listen to it, relax and let your mind wander with it.
